Sorry I haven't e-mailed yet - things have been a bit mad around here. Will probably ring instead if that's OK?
Much love

Hi Jean

No worries! To be honest feeling pretty ropey and putting a lot of hope on tomorrow's GP appointment. Just hope I won't be disappointed. Still can't really walk, took me over two hours to get going this morning and had to slip in some extra prednisolone to help me move. Afternoon's probably best for phone calls in light of bad temper with sore joints in a morning!!!

I know you understand! Must email Gwenda tomorrow? How is she doing?

Well I guess I don't have the strength and the fight has gone for now! Feel as though I let myself down :( although I did get a result!

GP was not prepared to do a depo and no way could I win him round. He said one of the other partners might be happy to do it, but I'm out of time to wait for another appointment. He offered to increase my oral steroids, as I'm already on them, so took the prescription and am on 10mg from today (I actually have a few spares so if necessary...). Enbrel can't be re-started until after the follow up check on Friday 3rd September, because of inner healing and the fact the surgeon has done a lot of work. He actually had to work on both cartilages and cut away quite a bit of bone and debris.

Then the crunch "You are not able to fly on Wednesday due to the very high risk of DVT following orthopaedic surgery." Long discussion and solely on the grounds my youngest son, who is having significant problems at the moment, needs the break he has prescribed two injections, one for going and one for coming back, which will thin the blood and prevent DVT. Just need to rest a few more days and let the prednisolone do its stuff and hopefully I will be well enough to get organised and on our way.

This is such a stressful time and all your good wishes and kind thoughts are received with my thanks. Thanks too for your support.

Love

Hi Lyn

I have great strength in my consultant, he is really quite anti steroid, we all understand how important they can be to us at times and so does he of course. However he appears to have not problems at all with giving depo s.

I am so pleased all has been sorted for the holiday, it will do you the absolute world of good, it was essential you had this break.

I m sure your stress levels will come down now, and feel that much better.

Love Julia xx

PS Having trouble with this post !! have deleted this message twice ( must be all that red wine - that will teach me ! )

Hi Lyn,

I'm so glad you will be able to go on your holiday, but I don't understand your GP. If he is willing to take the risk and prescribe you drugs to prevent DVT, what has he got against giving a depo jab? Especially as it's not because he doesn't want you to have it......he has said one of his colleagues might do it.
Oh well, ours not to reason why.
I hope the increased pred works really well for you and helps the flare on its way .

Love, Doreen xx

PS Didn't you take the scissors with you?

Hi Lyn,

I`m surprised your stress levels are not going through the roof! I wonder why your GP is so against depos? I know they`re expensive, but he doesn`t seem to be using those grounds for refusal.

Anyway, I`m pleased you will still be able to have your holiday - once you get over the travel stress and reach your villa I hope you will be able to relax. You couldn`t be going to a better place - I hope the whole family have a good, relaxing break. I think you will be hiring a car from Paphos airport? Latchi isn`t too far from there, so hopefully the increased pred will have kicked in, someone will bring you an ice-cold drink as you stretch out on your lounger, and the flare will go away and leave you in peace.

Take care,

Kathleen x

Sorry to hear about the depo Lyn but at least you now have the means to minimise the risk of DVT. I'm surprised no one had mentioned it to you before. You must get rest and more rest. I don't know what it's like for your holidays but in my house I am always held responsible for ensuring everyone has everything they might possibly need during their holiday. Packing always puts my stress levels up. Maybe you could do lists and give your family some of the packing responsibility? I hope the pred helps. Take care.

Hi Lyn

I'm glad you'll be able to get away on holiday, that should really help with your stress levels.

I hope you start to improve as well.

Dear Lyn, so glad to read that the operation is behind you and hope to goodness that things improve and allow you to go to Cyprus. Sorry I haven't been in touch but virgin media services have been down in my area for 2 weeks thanks to a developer and a bulldozer. Still not up and running but I have internet tonight at least.

Will e mail you.

Keep up with the peas.

Sending gentle hugs Lyn and thinking of you so much. Really really hope the increased prednisolone is helping xxXXxx

AND STEP AWAY FROM THE SUITCASE - ....I SAID STEP AWAY FROM THE SUITCASE XX

You can be in charge of the lists - someone else must do the heavy stuff!

I prescribe a weekend of de stress and am saying little prayers for you as well as sending gentle hugs and positive vibes,

With lots of love from Liz xxXxx

Hi!

Thank you all! Feeling much better now although still walking badly (but at least I can now do something akin to walking!). Everything is slow and only the really necessary is being done! I will make it to Cyprus!!

Lists have been distributed, lists have been lost. Clothes now appearing and laundry basket filling up as deadline approaches. Long list for the morning, including a blood test, so fingers crossed for no more hitches! Can't sleep and way too hot, obviously too much steroid, so preparing more lists!! I like lists ... I shall be list manager ThumpUp - good idea Liz!

Shall we take Monopoly or Scrabble? Which DVDs to pack? Shall we take sun cream or buy it there? Why do the twins have to argue just because they have to share a room for two weeks? Questions, questions and way too much steroid!!

Think I'll try bed again, "to sleep, perchance to dream, ay there's the rub". Oh no not Shakespeare at this time of night. Clearly lost the plot ... way too much steroid!

Lyn x

"Ode to Steroid" ... Hmm, perhaps not RollEyes

Hi Lyn,

If you become "List Manager," can I be your deputy? I can`t function without my lists!!I start every day with a list, and have actually been known, to my shame, to add a couple of things to the bottom of the list, which weren`t on it in the first place, just to make it look as if I`ve done a lot that particular day!! Sad, but true!

Hope you have a good flight, good journey, great holiday, good rest.

Take care,

Kathleen xx

Hi Lyn,

Thank god all went well with your op, but sorry to hear about your GP's reluctance to give you a depo.

A bit of advice about Cyprus, buy your suntan lotion here as it is more expensive there and will cost the earth.

Do hope that the pain gets less and that your mobility improves soon. I am also off all RA drugs (immune system too weak) and can empathise with the old morning stiffness. I am sure that the lovely warm sun on the bones will do you the world of good, just make sure that you are looked after well and let the kids do the running!

much love and well wishes,

Barbara
